In Memoriam: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hall | Rutgers Law

Ruth Ginsburg as I remember her
at Rutgers Law School

After a Women's Rights Law Reporter symposium remembering its first faculty advisor Jonathan Holloway, President, and Nancy Kantor - Provost of Rutgers - the State University of New Jersey - paid tribute and formally renamed the oldest building of the university in Newark for Ruth Ginsburg who taught at the law school in Newark for nine years.
I had the good fortune to be a student in her civil procedure class.  There - while instructing us on summary judgment, motions to dismiss, and other basics - she took the time to sketch out the strategy she would employ.  She hoped to accomplish for women what Thurgood Marshall had done for African Americans.  She succeeded in most respects.  But ironically this past week the woman who took her place - Amy Coney Barrett - showed none of the concern for women that characterized Ruth Ginsburg's long life in the law. - GWC
