China's new Civil Code takes effect today, Supreme Court issues extensive guidance

Passed by China's National People's Congress on May 28, 2020, the comprehensive new civil code law became effective today.

The NPC posted an English translation of the entire code "for reference only" - because the official version is the Chinese, of course.  The new law replaces many stand-alone laws passed over the past decade or so.

The Supreme People's Court was charged with updating its various forms of implementation and guidance for judges and lawyers, such as interpretations, guiding cases, regulations, discussion of questions, etc.  These were the subject of an SPC press conference a couple of days ago.  The indispensable Susan Finder has gathered these very substantial materials and posted them today at at her Supreme People's Court Monitor.
