One of the killers of Ahmaud Arbery was a former prosecutor's detective Greg McMichael, father of the shooter Travis McMichael. The cops who arrived on the scene, like the Brunswick DA [now under indictment], protected the men who tracked and shot Ahmaud Arbery.
But as WaPO reporter Meryl Kornfield reports:
After the Brunswick district attorney and Waycross district attorney recused themselves without charging the men, [Georgia State law professor Clark D.] Cunningham noted two aspects of the case that made the arrests — and subsequent convictions — possible: Greg McMichael’s decision to share the video of the slaying with the public and Arbery’s outspoken family receiving national support and attention.
“We shouldn’t count on those kinds of things for justice to be done,” Cunningham said.
