Judges have a duty, given their unique vantage point,
intimate knowledge of the system and––in the federal realm––the
invaluable protection of life tenure, to expose injustice where they can.
Moderation in this, as in other matters, is desirable. Respectful
disagreement when the judge deems it appropriate.
Judge Jack Weinstein (2014)
Everyday is a good day for a judge to lay down his professional life for justice
32  Fordham Urban Law Journal 101 (2014)

Jack B. Weinstein, 98,  has retired as a judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Brooklyn.  The legendary judge is famous for stepping beyond the bounds of the law as it appeared to him: in order to identify the demands of justice.  A recipient of Fordham's Louis Stein Prize he is one of the legendary judges of our time.
