Open letter to the US Catholic bishops: It's over | National Catholic Reporter


National Catholic Reporter (NCR) broke the clergy sex abuse story in 1985.  Since then it has relentlessly followed the story as it became a national and international scandal.  Despite effective reforms he consuming scandal now is the failure of the Church hierarchy to accept responsibility.  Confession has been resisted while $5 billion! of the faithful's money has been paid in compensation - with the usual sinner's do not disclose stipulation.  That legal strategy has been a form of coverup denying the people of he Church knowledge of their leadership's failures.  Now, spurred by the Pennsylvania grand jury report, the Cardinal McCarrick resignation, and the prospect of more NCR's editors have unleashed a furious demand that the U.S. bishops at their upcoming meeting really accept responsibility. - gwc
