What Happens When We Don’t Believe the President’s Oath? - Lawfare

This is a thoughtful, long analysis which in essence argues that a person - like Trump - who is not a liar, but rather a "bullshitter" - one who acts without consideration of truth cannot meaningfully take the oath of office to "protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" and "take care" that the law will be "faithfully executed". Wht Trump's heedlessness of truth brings us is disorder and arbitrariness which are the opposite of rule of law. - GWC

***What does it even mean for a person who contradicts himself constantly, who says all kinds of crazy things, who has unknown but extensive financial dealings that could be affected by his actions, and who makes up facts as needed in the moment to swear an oath to faithfully execute the office?***
Trump’s election will fundamentally change my work on this site over the next few years, and probably off the site too. Because at least for me, Trump does not enter office with a presumption of regularity in his work. He does not enter office with a presumption that as President he will pursue a vision of what national security means that is remotely related to my own or that he will do so in a rational fashion—or even that he and I share a common idea of what aspects of this nation we are trying to secure.
