Amazing Grace is a song of gratitude to God for lifting us from the burden of our own sins. It is a song of humility written by a repentant slave trader.
There is little more offensive than self-righteousness presenting itself as humility. That's what the Republican Congressional caucus did today - singing Amazing Grace as a fight song for wrecking the economy in the name of saving it, of denying health insurance to people who until now could not afford it.
