U.S. Internet service too slow and too expensive

So we are ranked # 33 in the world in internet speed.  Perhaps because of limited competition (the old Bell Telephone companies and the cable TV local monopolies).

But it's too expensive too.  We provide roads to everyone - why not the information superhighway?  Shouldn't there be no such thing as cutting off your internet connection for non-payment?  Maybe the post-office should be given a section of bandwidth so that everyone can have email and access to government information, hospitals, public schools, etc. - GWC
