Putting a halo on Dorothy Day shows her no love | National Catholic Reporter

The movement to canonize Dorothy Day, founder of the Catholic Worker movement is gaining steam.  Lauded by everyone from the bishops who once spurned her to MSM house conservative David Brooks we seem to be headed toward St. Dorothy Day.  But the process of sanctification has a large measure of sanitization.  Stripped of her renunciation of militarism, she is lauded for her sacrificial work in service to the poor.  But Dorothy Day was a rebel not a Mother Theresa.  Actually she was a better model than the famous, conservative nun. - gwc

What's afoot with Dorothy Day is hardly new. She is being defanged by selectively hailing her decades of running soup kitchens for the homeless while ignoring her persistent damnings of American militarism and the hierarchy's complicity. The protocol equals the sanitizing of Martin Luther King Jr., sung as the "I have a dream" man, but unsung as the condemner of the United States for having the world's most violent government.

  1. Well, they also need to canonize Peter Maurin. You need to do an Easy Essay on him...
